Courtesy of Yahoo!Yahoo continues to bolster its digital magazine initiative with the appointment of two new editors.
Longtime Entertainment Weekly journalist Kristen Baldwin will head Yahoo TV, and restaurateur and food writer Kerry Diamond will lead Yahoo Food.
Baldwin, who spent 19 years at EW, will start Sept. 29 as Yahoo TV’s editor-in-chief and will be based in New York. She will work closely with Vulture veteran Josh Wolk, who became editor-in-chief of Yahoo Entertainment in March.
“What’s fun about the opportunity at Yahoo is that we’ll get to be experimenting with new forms of video and visual storytelling,” Baldwin tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Yahoo TV already has such a great reach and a great brand. I’m excited to create more original content and bring new voices into the mix.”
Diamond, the co-founder of indie magazine Cherry Bombe, will lead Yahoo Food in New York as editor-in-chief starting Sept. 22.
“Digital is such an exciting space these days,” says the co-owner of three Brooklyn restaurants — Nightingale 9, Wilma Jean and Smith Canteen. “I think what you’ve seen in the food world has only scratched the surface of what’s possible. Food isn’t just about your taste buds, it’s about engaging all your senses.”
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer announced the Tumblr-powered news sections known as Yahoo Digital Magazines in January this year. Her first appointments included New York Times columnist David Pogue to helm the technology section, makeup maven Bobbi Brown to lead the beauty vertical and Elle magazine creative director Joe Zee to run the fashion page.
