Getty ImagesAnother tech giant is set to move into a historical newspaper building, as Yahoo will relocate its San Francisco team to the Chronicle building later this year, the company said Thursday.
Yahoo signed a five-year lease for three floors in the 5th and Mission location that previously were occupied by Jack Dorsey‘s credit card payment startup, Square, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The office is only a short distance from Yahoo’s current location in the city at 475 Sansome St., where it occupies several floors.
“These days, transformation is palpable everywhere you turn at Yahoo. For this reason, we love the symbolism of moving into the Chronicle building, as it personifies the digital revolution in how people around the world consume media,” wrote Jacqueline Reses, chief development officer at Yahoo, in a statement posted on Tumblr.
The Hearst Corp. newspaper has occupied the building since 1924. In recent years, the location has been reoriented as a hub for tech companies. Yahoo’s headquarters are in Sunnyvale, Calif.
