Online video studio Rooster Teeth Productions has hired Internet personality Meg Turney to join its entertainment, gaming and tech news YouTube channel The Know.
Turney has previously hosted videos on Nerdist News and CraveOnline. She most recently appeared on Philip DeFranco‘s news channel SourceFed, announcing in April that she would depart at the end of the month. She joins The Know on June 1 as part of a news team that includes video game industry veteran Ashley Jenkins and MTV veteran Joey Aranda.
“Meg’s previous experience in hosting and news set her apart from all other candidates,” commented Rooster Teeth co-founder and creative director Burnie Burns. “We are excited about what she brings to the company and our new information channel, The Know. Having genuine hosts that understand and love online culture is critical to our mission. Meg Turney fits that description perfectly.”
Turney said she was excited to join the Rooster Teeth team.
“They have been pioneers in the industry for many years, and their level of originality and just plain fun in their content is unmatched in the space,” she added. “We have tried to work together before, so to finally see the opportunity come to fruition is just amazing, and I can’t wait to jump right in.”
Austin-based Rooster Teeth, which was part of Machinima’s ad network until it went independent last year, is the production company behind comic science fiction web series Red vs. Blue and animated series RWBY. The company’s main Rooster Teeth YouTube channel has more than 7.5 million subscribers and recently passed 3 billion total views.
Since it launched The Know two months ago, the channel has grown to more than 280,000 subscribers and 9 million video views. Now the channel will be expanding, launching The Know It All in June. The weekly series will dish up news with a dash of humor every Friday.
