YouTube Red will serve up a little horror alongside its holiday fare.
The streamer has ordered horror-comedy series 12 Deadly Days from Blumhouse Television.
The series, which debuts Monday on the subscription streaming service, will tell 12 interconnected stories about the residents of Saturn, Calif., who find themselves terrorized by killer carolers and cursed fruitcakes in the days leading up to Christmas.
The large cast includes Betty Gabriel (The Purge: Election Year), Kaitlin Doubleday (Empire), Dohn Norwood (Hell on Wheels) and Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as well as a number of online stars, including Anna Akana, Burnie Burns, Brittany Furlan, Meghan Rienks and Alexis Zall.
Chris Cullari and Jennifer Raite are executive producing 12 Deadly Days as part of their first-look deal with Blumhouse. The series is being produced by Dakota Pictures.
“We’re honored to be working with Blumhouse, the masters of horror, as we move into more genre programming for YouTube Red, and were excited to pair them with 12 of the best actor-creators on YouTube for 12 Deadly Days,” said YouTube Originals head of scripted programming Tim Shey. “Viewers are going to be blown away by the storytelling, performances and dark humor of this series, which is like nothing else out right now.”
