"While the material he's written for boy band One Direction and recorded with Taylor Swift can be dismissed as lightweight, the songs he's released under his own name have considerably more heft, especially in a live setting," wrote THR contributor Craig Rosen of Ed Sheeran's Hollywood Palladium performance in February.

Ed Sheeran is going back on tour in the U.K. and Ireland.

The Grammy-nominated musician announced on Monday via Twitter that he'll headline 12 European shows for the first time since 2012, beginning on Oct. 6.

He then redirected fans to his manager, Stuart Camp, who tweeted that more tour dates in other countries will soon be announced. Camp also added that Sheeran would release the follow-up to his 2011 debut album by the time the tour kicks off in Dublin. "News on that soon," he tweeted.

Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, with an early-access presale going on now for fans on Sheeran's email list.
