Oscar red carpet watchers were wowed by Zero Dark Thirty nominee Jessica Chastain’s long, shiny red hair, worn with a side-part and '40s-style waves. So The Hollywood Reporter decided to do a little digging to find out the actress’s secret weapon.
“I used L’Oreal Dia Light in clear for intense shine and shimmer,” colorist Negin Zand tells THR exclusively. “It just locks in the color so beautifully.” She goes into more detail about Chastain’s Oscar look: “She’s a natural redhead, but I did a half-clear gloss and half-golden copper to make it a little brighter for the red carpet.”
Zand’s long client list also includes Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie, Sheryl Crow, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon, Kate Bosworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cate Blanchett, Diane Lane, Meg Ryan, Evan Rachel Wood, Jessica Biel, Jane Fonda, Megan Fox and Carey Mulligan.
But they don’t visit her at Sally Hershberger’s salon anymore. Negin recently left Sally's scene for the calmer, laid-back environment of Salon Benjamin (owned by British hairstylist Benjamin Mohapi) on Melrose Avenue. It’s located between Robertson and Doheny, across the street from Maxfield and next to Cerre, the luxury couture boutique of Clayton and Flavie Webster, known for designing Rooney Mara's Lisbeth Salander leather looks in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Salon Benjamin is unique in that it feels like an eccentric British friend’s home, with exposed wood, natural light, an overstuffed Chesterfield sofa, antiquarian books, vintage fashion magazines, quirky décor, artwork and curiosities. Guests also are served traditional British tea in antique bone china tea sets.
“I love it here,”says Negin, who has a private area for her clients. “It’s got a totally different vibe and it’s much more me.”
