Dressing every bit her usual disco-inspired self, the superstylist turned media mogul hosted South Coast Plaza and THR's 2nd annual "Live the Look" fashion show, and regaled a crowd of nearly 1,200 fans with the story of her "special" THR stylist issue cover in 2012 — mere weeks before she gave birth to son Skylar.
Fall Wardrobe Rule #1: Buy a camel coat. "Who doesn't love a camel coat?" Zoe asked the crowd as Max Mara sent one of its classic options down the SCP runway. We'll raise our hand to that.
Fall Wardrobe Rule #2: This season, we'll be wearing leather — and lots of it. "How chic is this?" Zoe said of Gucci's leather-on-leather look that opened the show. "I'd buy everything from Gucci if I could." Uh, so would we.
Fall Wardrobe Rule #3: Simple at night is good. Sure, it can be enticing to dream of beading and adornment when it comes to awards-season daydreaming, but for legitimate old-school glamour, Lanvin's simple velvet evening gown is as jaw-dropping as they come. We'll be keeping things basic and (hopefully) turning heads at our next formal event, too.
Fall Wardrobe Rule #4: Grab your green hat. Or camel hat. Or brown hat. Or any color hat, for that matter (oh hey, Pharrell). Just as long as it's androgynous and structured, and can be worn with a powerfully sexy skirt (extra points for rear-seam tights, as seen on this Max Mara look), et voila — #girlboss all the way. "We all love powerful women in this room," Zoe told the South Coast Plaza crowd. And nothing says power like a hat that keeps up with the boys.
Fall Wardrobe Rule #5: Patterns and colors deserve to be mixed, especially when Oscar de la Renta is concerned. "There is nothing bad about this brand," asserted Zoe.
Fall Wardrobe Rule #6: To anyone trying to appear lithe like a French first lady, the idea of a huge coat may seem counterintuitive. But a sculptural coat is actually an incredibly effective way to play with proportions and make one's body appear willowy and ballerina-like. "I just came from this show in Paris," Zoe said of the Chloe outfit that went down SCP's catwalk. "And I have to say that I want everything in this collection, and everything in the spring collection too."
Fall Wardrobe Rule #7: Buy a tuxedo. "I love a tuxedo," Zoe said of this Ralph Lauren number. "I never get sick of it."
Fall Wardrobe Rule #8: Leopard isn't dead. Despite having a sordid history with bad Vegas nightclubs and ladies of the night, animal prints can actually be tres chic, especially when done in small pops as seen in this Ralph Lauren ensemble. "I never get sick of leopard," Zoe smirked, acknowledging her major penchant for all things animal print. Even Zoe's husband, Rodger Berman, who watched his wife from the show's front row, chuckled at the comment.
