Ruby Rose will make TV history as the Greg Berlanti-produced DC Comics show is the first live-action scripted drama series with a lesbian superhero (played by an out actress). The Orange Is the New Black grad stars as Kate Kane, the superhero who roams the streets of Gotham as Batwoman and must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to become the city's symbol of hope.
The Vampire Diaries grad Caroline Dries serves as showrunner on the Warner Bros. TV-produced series that counts Geoff Johns among its exec producers. Dougray Scott, Elizabeth Anweis, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang and Rachel Skarsten round out the cast.

Simone Missick plays a judge in the courthouse drama (which went by the title Courthouse during development) who tries to bring justice to the people of Los Angeles amid a flawed legal system.
All Rise will air on Monday nights in the fall, leading into another legal drama, the returning Bull.
Former Mike & Molly star Billy Gardell reteams with Chuck Lorre for a comedy about a man who suffers a heart attack and unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse (Folake Olowofoyeku). Lorre co-created he Warner Bros. series with Eddie Gorodetsky and Al Higgins — veterans of past Lorre shows — and comedian Gina Yashere.
The Chuck Lorre comedy starring Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku (right) as the title characters also features Travis Wolfe Jr., Barry Henley and Shola Adewusi. It will pair with The Neighborhood on Monday nights in the fall.
Patricia Heaton returns to CBS a decade-plus after Everybody Loves Raymond to star in and exec produce this multi-camera comedy about a retired teacher with grown children who decides to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor. Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins (Trophy Wife) created the CBS Studios series.
Kyle MacLachlan stars opposite Patricia Heaton in the comedy; the cast also includes Lucas Neff, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Ito Aghayere and Sabrina Jalees.
The Good Fight creators Robert and Michelle King come back to the broadcast network with this X-Files-esque show about a skeptical psychologist (Westworld's Katja Herbers) and a priest in training (Luke Cage's Mike Colter) who work for the Catholic church to investigate a backlog of supposed miracles, demonic possessions and other unexplained phenomena.
‘Evil’
The lone single-camera show among CBS' new comedies centers on widower Wade (Walton Goggins) and the friends who try to help him move on from the toughest year of his life, including being a single parent and re-entering the dating world, where to his shock, he's a hot commodity. From CBS TV Studios and writers Bill Martin and Mike Schiff (Grounded for Life).
The Unicorn was initially developed as a multi-camera comedy but converted to single-camera. The Walton Goggins-led show will pair with CBS' other single-cam comedy, Young Sheldon, on Thursday nights in the fall.
CBS favorite Pauley Perrette (NCIS) returns to the network in a multi-cam comedy about a trust-fund baby (Jane the Virgin's Jaime Camil) who's cut off by his father, forcing him and his wife (Natasha Leggero) to move in with her estranged sister (Perrette). Will & Grace veteran Alex Herschlag writes and exec produces the CBS Studios series with Jane the Virgin's Jennie Snyder Urman, among others.
Natasha Leggero and Pauley Perrette play estranged sisters who reunite when Leggero's character and her husband (Jaime Camil) run out of money. The comedy is scheduled for a midseason premiere.
A spinoff of the Dick Wolf-produced FBI, which aired as a planted episode of the show in April, focuses on members of a fugitive task force. Julian McMahon and Law & Order alum Alana de la Garza lead the cast; like its parent show, Most Wanted is a co-production between Universal TV (where Wolf is based) and CBS TV Studios.
The FBI: Most Wanted cast also includes Nathaniel Arcand (center) and Roxy Sternberg (right) along with Julian McMahon, who plays the head of the bureau's fugitive task force. The FBI spinoff is set for midseason.
In one of the bigger casting gets of the season, Edie Falco stars in this drama as a former high-ranking NYPD officer who becomes the first female police chief in Los Angeles. She uses her unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to navigate the social, political and national security issues that converge when enforcing the law. The series comes from Amblin TV, CBS TV Studios and writer Paul Attanasio (Bull).
CBS chief creative officer David Nevins personally recruited Edie Falco for the lead role as L.A.'s first female police chief in Tommy, having developed a relationship with her when he ran Showtime, where she starred in Nurse Jackie for seven seasons.
“For Life”
Based on an Israeli series, the drama tells the story of the unlikely romance between a blue-collar baker (Victor Rasuk) and an international superstar (Nathalie Kelley). Set in Miami, the Notting Hill-esque series is a co-production of ABC Studios and Universal TV in association with Keshet Studios, which produced the original. It's the second series pickup this season for writer/EP Dean Goergaris, who also has Bluff City Law at NBC.
Developed at NBC before moving to ABC with a series pickup, the thriller centers on a police chief (Allison Tolman, Fargo, Downward Dog) who takes in a young girl (Alexa Swinton) found near the site of a small plane crash who has no memory of what has happened. The investigation draws her into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined, and the child’s identity is at the center of it all. The show comes from ABC Studios and creators Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters (Agent Carter).
Based on the Stumptown graphic novels by Greg Rucka, this private-eye drama from ABC Studios was a frontrunner at ABC throughout pilot season. Avengers actress Cobie Smulders plays Dex Parios, an army veteran with a complicated love life, a gambling debt and a brother to take care of who works as a P.I. in Portland, Ore. Jason Richman (Detroit 187) adapted Greg Rucka's comics.
Cobie Smulders was among the most in-demand actors of pilot season before choosing Stumptown. The drama also stars Michael Ealy, Tantoo Cardinal, Cole Sibus, Adrian Martinez and Camryn Manheim.
A prequel to Black-ish, the 1980s-set spinoff revolves around a younger version of Tracee Ellis Ross' Rainbow (Arica Himmell) as her family moves from a hippie commune to the suburbs. The single-camera ABC Studios comedy, written by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and EP Peter Saji, will explore issues the mixed-race family faces.
Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross narrates the spinoff as the adult version of her character, Rainbow (she's also an exec producer). Arica Himmel plays the young Rainbow, with Mykal-Michelle Harris as sister Santamonica and Ethan Childress as brother Johann. Tika Sumpter plays the kids' mother, and Christina Anthony (right) is their aunt.
Of the seven comedy scripts ABC ordered to pilot, this multicamera entry starring Jane Curtin and Will Sasso is the lone half-hour to score a series pickup. The Latinx-Catholic family comedy (Christina Vidal stars opposite Sasso as a married couple from two different backgrounds) hails from Making History grad Julius "Goldy" Sharpe, who wrote and exec produced. It's a co-production between ABC Studios and Sony Pictures TV.
Christina Vidal and Will Sasso play Jo and Bill, parents of two kids who are just trying to make it day to day as a functioning family. Not always helping are his judgmental, live-in mother (Jane Curtin) and her large family, who are always ready to let the couple know how they're screwing up. But they always have each other's backs.
A present-day cop drama with "the spirit of a classic Western," Deputy stars Stephen Dorff (True Detective) as a career L.A. sheriff's deputy who's suddenly elevated to the top job when the sheriff dies. Former LAPD detective-turned-screenwriter Will Beall (Aquaman) created the show, a co-production of Entertainment One and Fox.
John Slattery's first regular TV role since Mad Men places him in a thriller from 24 veteran Manny Coto. Slattery plays a Silicon Valley pioneer who learns that one of his creations, a powerful A.I., has gone rogue and threatens to bring global catastrophe. Fernanda Andrade and Michael Mosley also star in the 20th Century Fox/Fox Entertainment co-production.
A multi-camera comedy from creator Lon Zimmet (LA to Vegas), 20th TV and Fox Entertainment, Outmatched (formerly Geniuses) was one of Fox's frontrunners during pilot season. It stars Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson as a blue-collar couple from South Jersey who are trying to get by and raise their four kids — three of whom are certified geniuses.
‘Prodigal Son’
Based on Australian series Sisters, the Universal TV/Endemol Shine/Fox Entertainment drama centers on a young woman (Brittany Snow) whose life is upturned when she finds out her dad, a renowned fertility doctor, used his own sperm to conceive more than 100 children — including two new sisters (Megalyn Echikunwoke and Emily Osment).
A character-driven legal drama that follows the lawyers of an elite Memphis law firm that specializes in the most controversial landmark civil rights cases. Jimmy Smits and Caitlin McGee head the cast of the Universal TV series, which was created by Dean Georgaris.
Bradley Whitford stars in a single-camera comedy from Disney's 20th TV as a former Princeton music professor who unexpectedly stumbles into choir practice at a small-town church. Speechless veteran Lesley Lake Webster created the series, with Whitford and pilot director Jason Winer among the EPs.
Garrett Shah (Kal Penn) is a former New York city councilman who finds his calling when faced with immigrants in need of his help and in search of the American Dream. Penn also co-created the Universal TV series with Parks and Recreation vet Matt Murray; Mike Schur is among the exec producers.
In the vein of This Is Us, this drama from former Grey's Anatomy showrunners Tony Phelan and Joan Rater centers on Scott (Tom Everett Scott), a father of four diagnosed with cancer. He assembles his closest allies to be "back-up dads" for his family. Sarah Wayne Callies, Clive Standen, J. August Richards, Michael O'Neill and Michele Weaver also star in the Universal TV series.
The lone multi-cam comedy among NBC's four new half-hours, the Sony-produced series stars Adam Pally and Abby Elliott as parents ready to reclaim their lives now that their kids are growing up. Then his parents (Fran Drescher and Steven Weber) show up at their door, broke, and he feels obligated to take them in. Dan Levy (The Goldbergs) created the show.
Based on the bestselling Bone Collector book series, the drama — a co-production of Sony and Universal TV — stars Russell Hornsby (just off Fox's canceled Proven Innocent) as Lincoln Rhyme, a criminologist seriously injured in his hunt for a serial killer who enlists a young beat cop to help him hunt the murderer while also taking on big cases for the NYPD. Justified veteran VJ Boyd and Mark Bianculli co-wrote the pilot.
Arielle Kebbel plays the young beat cop who helps Lincoln Rhyme (Russell Hornsby) hunt a serial killer while also taking on other high-profile cases for the NYPD. The series is based on Jeffrey Deaver's Bone Collector novels, which also spawned a 1999 movie with Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie.
Long-time Saturday Night Live regular Kenan Thompson is ready for primetime, playing a newly widowed man who is trying to be a super dad to his adorable daughters (Dani, left, and Dannah Lockett) while balancing his job and a father-in-law (Andy Garcia) who wants to "help." SNL's Lorne Michaels and Thompson exec produce the comedy from Superstore veteran Jackie Clarke and Universal TV. Thompson may try to do both this show and SNL next season.
A musical dramedy from executive producer Paul Feig and writer Austin Winsberg (Gossip Girl), the Lionsgate TV series stars Jane Levy (Castle Rock) stars as a whip-smart coder in San Francisco who, after an unusual event, starts to hear people's innermost wants and desires expressed through songs. After first questioning her sanity, she comes to realize this unwanted curse may actually be a great gift.
