“I’m European, so I’m used to small spaces,” says Estate Four owner Alessandro Cajrati Crivelli. “But I’m learning how people here live. People who buy homes in Los Angeles generally want something that is 15,000 square feet or bigger.”
“I feel like I’m living on the edge of poverty under 9-foot ceilings,” says Crivelli, his voice echoing all the way up to the nearly triple-height ceilings of a mega-spec mansion he’s building in Holmby Hills.
Paul McClean has become one of L.A.’s leading designers of high-end spec homes. Among his recent projects are this 8,000-square-foot home in the Bird Streets with city-to-ocean views.
