Katey Sagal's Sons of Anarchy aired its series finale Dec. 9.
Sagal has already wrapped on Pitch Perfect 2, and is currently shooting boxing drama Bleed for This.
In Bleed for This, Sagal will play Louise, the mother of boxer Vinny Pazienza (Miles Teller).
"I took Sarah to the premiere of a Disney movie I was in — I played a mean character — and she started crying when she saw me, 'Hey, that's not my mom!' " laughs Sagal, 60, who began her showbiz career as a backup singer for such artists as Bob Dylan and Bette Midler and broke out on Fox's Married with Children. "But I actually tried to shield all my kids from the celebrity stuff as much as I could. I wanted them to have as normal a life as possible."
"My first public comment on my mom's job didn't go too well," says Rosie Miller, 24. "When the announcement of her move to Disney came out, my kindergarten teacher pointed out that I had big news to share with the class. 'Yes,' I proudly declared. 'My mom is the president of Disneyland!' Although I later learned that 'running Disneyland' was not in fact part of her job description, it was still very cool to have a mother who was boss at Disney Channel and, later, ABC and ABC Family."
"To me, my mom has always been first and foremost my mom. I am beyond proud of her accomplishments. Seeing her named [THR's] Most Powerful Woman in Hollywood showed me firsthand that girls are powerful. However, my main source of empowerment from my mom does not come from any title she has earned but from the guidance, love and support she has given me throughout the years. Her crisis-management skills are flawless, and when you're a 24-year-old figuring out who you are and what you want to be, a crisis-management guru comes in handy."
Ask Rami and Sofia Prochilo about their mother, Bela Bajaria, executive vp of Universal Television, and they're quick to offer sweet appraisals of lessons learned ("She's taught us to put 100 percent into everything," says Sofia, 11) and unfiltered adoration ("I'm proud that she does such a hard job and still has time for us," says Rami, 13).
"It's cool she gets to work with interesting people, and I like visiting the lot with my friends. But I don't think I'd want to go into entertainment," admits Rami. "It seems like everything is too different every day! I've always wanted to be a doctor." And Sofia? "I want to play soccer."
"I was lucky to grow up in a very close family, so we have a very strong foundation," says Bajaria, 43. "This job is challenging and fun. But when I go home and see those smoochy faces … that's it! Being a mother is the coolest thing ever. I hope they follow their dreams and never lose their compassion. There's a big landscape out there."
