Harvey Weinstein (with Katie Couric) was a co-host of a pep rally at New York power restaurant Michael's for the New York Giants Feb. 1. Football paraphernalia decorated the restaurant's walls and the lunch's place cards were white Giants caps. Weinstein has football on the brain: his film Undefeated, about the Memphis high school team the Manassas Tigers, is nominated for an Oscar for best documentary. "Harvey is a big Giants fan," the team's co-owner Steve Tisch told THR before the lunch. Weinstein previously hosted regular-season viewing parties during Sundance in Park City and in St. Barths over New Year's.

Today show fourth-hour co-host Hoda Kotb and CNN's Piers Morgan enjoyed a lunch of cheeseburgers and fries, four days prior to the face off between the Giants and the New England Patriots.

Longtime Giants fan Matt Lauer (left, with musician wife Patty Smyth) and John McEnroe were co-hosts of the lunch along with Harvey Weinstein's brother Bob, Steve Tisch, Saturday Night Live's Lorne Michaels, Dick Ebersol, Brian Williams, Sports Illustrated editor-in-chief Terry O'Donnell. The NBC contingent was no accident; the network is broadcasting the game this year. O'Donnell, however, said he wasn't there as a dedicated Giants booster — unlike most of the crowd of hardcore rooters for the team. "I live in New York and like them very much. I'm just doing this to support the NFL and promote the Super Bowl. Sports Illustrated is neutral," he told THR before the event.

Before the event, THR asked co-owner (and movie producer) Steve Tisch what the turning point for the team was in getting to the Super Bowl: “You know, beating the Jets was in my opinion kind of the catalyst we needed and you know the compass changed direction and we’ve followed in that direction ever since that game. We share a stadium with them, we share a city with them, we share the media attention in New York. It was very important to us psychologically," he said.
