For camera rehearsals, placards mark where the nominees and presenters sit. Merly Streep is nominated for best actress for The Iron Lady. While she holds the record for most acting Academy Award nominations with 17, she has only won twice, the most recent time being in 1982 for Sophie's Choice.
Chris Rock, who hosted the Oscars in 2005, will return to present at this year's show.
Billy Crystal was brought in to host the Academy Awards after Eddie Murphy resigned in the wake of producer Brett Ratner's decision to step down after uttering a gay slur. Crystal previously hosted in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2004.

Cirque du Soleil will perform during the 84 Academy Awards. The performance will be set to music from Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman, who wrote the score for the troupe's IRIS, A Journey through the World of Cinema.
Cirque du Soleil will take the stage at the Feb. 26 ceremony with a cast of 50-plus performers from around the world. It will mark a record for Cirque du Soleil: the largest assembly of high-flying, gravity-defying members for a single performance.

Brian Grazer stepped in to produce the 84th Academy Awards after original producer Brett Ratner stepped down after coming under fire for making a series of ill-judged remarks. It will be the first time Grazer, who won the best picture award in 2001 for A Beautiful Mind, has produced the telecast.
Inspired by 1930s and ’40s Hollywood and the iconic work from that era by designer Billy Haines, interior designer Waldo Fernandez designed the green room to be a relaxed oasis amid the hustle and bustle of film's biggest night.
Despite the Kodak bankruptcy, the company's name likely will grace the theater during the show, but its name will be avoided by announcers. In early February, the Eastman Kodak Co., as part of its federal bankruptcy court filing, revealed that it wants to get out of its 2000 naming rights deal for the theater in the Hollywood & Highland complex where the Academy Awards have been held since 2002.
There are only 700 seats available for fans along the 500-foot-long walkway that leads into the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. Every year, fans can apply online for a random drawing to win a coveted seat in the bleachers.
This is the tenth consecutive year that Architectural Digest will produce the exclusive backstage lounge for Oscar presenters and honorees. Waldo Fernandez, a member of the AD 100, has worked on the homes of Brad Pitt and producer Darren Star. “My design career was incubated in Hollywood film, and my experiences on film sets are what gave me the opportunity to become an interior designer and work in the design field,” says Fernandez.
