Matthew's lifelong battle with bipolar disorder influenced the film, and he appears onscreen as a neighbor who harasses Bradley Cooper's character into participating in his school project about mental health. Matthew said making the film was so meaningful because he's been able to inspire “so many people who have these challenges.”
