'2000 AD' to Feature All-Female Special Issue This Summer (Exclusive)
The comics of the future will be made by women.
At least, that’s true for this summer’s 2000 AD Sci-Fi Special, which — for the first time in the anthology’s 41-year history — will feature an all-female creative lineup when it’s released in June, from writers and artists to colorists and letterers, working on some of the title’s biggest characters and series, including Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper and Psi-Judge Anderson.
Creators involved in the extra-sized issue include No Mercy’s Alex De Campi (Twisted Romance, No Mercy), Spinning writer/artist Tillie Walden, Doctor Who's and Charmed’s Katy Rex. The issue will have covers from newcomer Emily Zeinner and All Star Batman artist Tula Lotay.
In a statement, 2000 AD editor Matt Smith said, “I’m especially excited to welcome a group of new creators to 2000 AD, most of whom are making their debuts at the House of Tharg. This year’s historic Sci-Fi Special is going to be packed with unique voices and amazing talent.”
The special issue is the first of three such releases from 2000 AD this year; in August, a superhero-themed special will follow featuring classic characters from the pages of British comic anthologies of the 1970s and '80s, and October will see the release of a second Scream & Misty Special, following the success of last year’s revival.
The 48-page 2000 AD Sci-Fi Special will be released June 20.
