'Alita: Battle Angel' Trailer Previews Robert Rodriguez' Manga Take

Rosa Salazar stars in the graphic novel adaptation with Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein and Jackie Earle Haley.

The first trailer for Robert Rodriguez's ambitious adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel has dropped, and it introduces Rosa Salazar as the titular fighter.

The Fox movie, based on Yukito Kishiro's popular manga graphic novel series Gunnm, stars Salazar as a 26th century cyborg who is discovered in a scrapyard by a scientist. With no memory of her previous life except her deadly martial-arts training, she becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals. The action-adventure story is meant to serve as a backdrop to themes of self-discovery and the search for love.

Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson are also among the cast of the movie, which features a script by James Cameron, Laeta Kalogridis and Rodriguez. Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau produced the movie.

Alita: Battle Angel hits theaters July 20.
