'Adventure Time' and 'Hello Kitty' alumnus Ian McGinty tells a story of monsters, demons and standing up to your dad.

Ahead of the release of its collected edition, The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively debut a new animated trailer for Z2 Comics' Welcome to Showside, the critically acclaimed horror-influenced comic book for kids by Adventure Time illustrator Ian McGinty.

Written and drawn by McGinty — whose resume includes BOOM! Studios' Adventure Time and Steven Universe comic books, as well as Viz Media's Hello Kitty comics — Showside centers on an everyday town in the American South with one not-so-everyday secret: it's filled with portals to another realm filled with monsters and demons that like to come visit.

That's particularly important to the story's protagonist, Kit — who just so happens to be the son of the Great Shadow King, and groomed to take over the family business, even though that's the very opposite of what he wants. With the help of his best friends Moon — a wannabe sorceress — and the demon-hunting Belle, can he change his destiny and stand up to his father?

In addition to its comic book incarnation, Welcome to Showside was one of the first projects adapted by new production company Modern Prometheus, with the pilot for a potential animated series featuring Henry Rollins as one of the voice cast.

The collected Welcome to Showside will be released in comic book stores June 15, with mainstream bookstores receiving the title June 21. Watch the new trailer below.
