Amazon Studios is acquiring Task Force Two, an action pitch from rising writer Jennifer Yee McDevitt.

Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions is on board to produce the project along with Joshuah Bearman and Joshua Davis of Epic Magazine, the magazine-production company hybrid.

Logline details are being kept under wraps, but it is known to be a true-life action drama and is based on an article by Vince Beiser that chronicled the eponymous, elite search-and-rescue team based in California. The piece ran in California Sunday.

The material falls in line with the kind of subject Epic tackles; Bearman was the writer behind The Great Escape, the Wired article that was the basis for Argo, the Oscar-winning Ben Affleck thriller based on the 1979 CIA rescue operation.

Arthur Spector will be overseeing the project for Epic while Sam Roston shepherds for Scott Free.

Yee McDevitt may be a rising scribe, but she already has considerable experience in the entertainment world. She started as an assistant on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood before becoming a reader for Warner Bros. She wrote and directed the documentary 10 Mountains, 10 Years, narrated by Anne Hathaway with music by Bruce Springsteen, and spent two seasons with NFL Films.

Her first screenplay, First Chair, won the Grand Prize at the Set in Philadelphia Screenwriting Competition and is now the basis of a Reed Morano-directed feature that will star Jeff Bridges and Diane Lane. Her Wright Brothers biopic 12 Seconds made her a quarter finalist for the Academy Nicholl Fellowship.

McDevitt is repped by CAA, Rise Management and Jackoway Tyerman.
