Andy Serkis' 'Jungle Book' Adaptation Retitled 'Mowgli'

The film is set for release on Oct. 19, 2018.

Andy Serkis' The Jungle Book: Origins has officially changed its title to Mowgli, after the story's main protagonist.

The film, slated for release on Oct. 19, 2018, is being directed by Serkis and is the second adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's famous 1894 collection of short stories. Last year's Jon Favreau-directed The Jungle Book was a massive hit for Disney and earned an Oscar for visual effects.

Serkis' film will offer a "darker" take on the source material than Favreau's 2016 offering or the animated Disney classic from 1967.
