Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac to Star in J.C Chandor's Drug Thriller
Ben Affleck and Oscar Isaac are heading into the jungle for Netflix.
The respective Oscar-winning Batman star and the Star Wars actor are in negotiations to topline the project formerly known as Triple Frontier, the long-in-the-works crime drama that is now in preproduction at the streamer.
J.C. Chandor is sitting in the director’s seat for the picture that will begin shooting next week in locales such as Hawaii, California and Colombia.
"Triple Frontier" refers to the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, which is known as one of the world’s largest havens for organized crime. The project has been around since the 2000s, when it was developed as a directing vehicle for Kathryn Bigelow. The drama has always been a magnet for talent, and actors such as Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp have been associated with it.
In early 2017, Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy were in talks to star when the project was at Paramount. When it moved to Netflix last summer, Affleck was eyed to star. When he dropped out, Mark Wahlberg stepped in and was to star with Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal.
Chandor rewrote the script originally penned by Mark Boal. The story now centers on five friends whose loyalties are tested when they reunite to take down a South American drug lord, unleashing a chain of unintended consequences.
Charles Roven (Wonder Woman, American Hustle), Alex Gartner and Andy Horwitz are producing via Atlas Entertainment. Thomas Hayslip, Neal Dodson and Anna Gerb are executive producing.
