Spider-Man: Far From Home is heading for a record Tuesday opening at the North American box office, according to early returns.

Bullish box office analysts have the Sony and Marvel Studios tentpole grossing anywhere from $40 million to $48 million for the day.

The current record holder for best Tuesday debut belongs to The Amazing Spider-Man, which took in $35 million in July 2012, not adjusted for inflation.

Far From Home is opening early in the week in order to take advantage of the July Fourth corridor.

Prerelease tracking had suggested a six-day debut north of $125 million for Far From Home. That number is now expected to come in at $150 million or more in a much-needed win for the box office, where a number of franchise installments have lagged this year.

A major exception, of course, is Marvel Studios and Disney's Avengers: Endgame, which opened in late April on its way to becoming the No. 2-grossing movie of all time at the global box office.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is no doubt getting a boost from Endgame.

Far From Home picks up after the events of Endgame as Tom Holland's Peter Parker (aka Spider-Man) and Samuel Jackson's Nick Fury adjust to a world without Iron Man and other key Avengers to defend it.

The latest Spider-Man pic is also the last chapter in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
