Bruce Willis is in talks to star in American Assassin, an action thriller set up at CBS Films.

Di Bonaventura Pictures and Nick Wechsler Productions are producing the project, an adaptation of a novel by Vince Flynn.

The book, the 11th of a series, is the origin story of titular assassin Mitch Rapp. The story sees Rapp as a college student recruited by the CIA, eventually becoming part of a group of clandestine operatives.

Willis, who has an offer for the role but has yet to enter formal negotiations, would play Rapp's mentor.

If the deal is made, CAA-repped Willis would be re-teamed with di Bonaventura, who produced the Willis-starring action movie Red. The two are prepping a fall shoot for Red 2.
