Wednesday's video presentation features game designer Kevin Drew and narrative writer Craig Houston teasing the story and mechanics, which can be experienced either solo or as a four-person co-op.

Video game developer Treyarch revealed on Wednesday a gameplay trailer presentation for the zombie mode of its latest action-adventure installment, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Communications director John Rafacz shared in the video that the mode can be played either solo or as a four person co-op, with players facing "wave after wave of the undead" as they work in an action-paced environment to solve puzzles and fulfill their one objective: to survive.

"Black Ops Cold War sets the stage for a new zombies experience that not only celebrates our entire zombies heritage, but uses it to built a completely new chapter in our universe," says Rafacz. The chapter is called Die Maschine, and takes place in the early 1980s.

Game designer Kevin Drew shared that the game is a new story led by different characters and set in a different time period. Lead narrative writer Craig Houston added, "At the very end of Black Ops 4, our characters sacrificed themselves to collapse the multiverse and try and create a singular world where zombies didn’t exist. And they were half right."

Players will be part of a CIA-backed international response team led by Grigori Weaver, a Russian American who Black Ops 4 fans will recognize. Houston describes the gameplay as "classic," but "tonally quite fresh" with updates to how weapons are unlocked and used, along with the way they inflict damage.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies enters open beta on Oct. 8 and releases Nov. 13.
