'Captain Marvel' Flies to Huge Advance Ticket Sales on First Day

The Disney and Marvel superhero pic stars Brie Larson in the titular role.

Upcoming superhero tentpole Captain Marvel — the first title from Marvel Studios to feature a solo female lead — is looking marvelous with respect to its box office potential.

In terms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the March release is second only to last year's blockbusters Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther when it comes to the number of advance tickets sold by Fandango within the first 24 hours, according to the online ticketing site.

Advance ticket sales commenced Monday evening, just as Marvel and Disney debuted a new Captain Marvel trailer during the college football national championship game on ESPN.

Brie Larson stars as the titular hero, Carol Danvers, and Samuel L. Jackson and Jude Law co-star in the pic. Longtime collaborators Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed from a screenplay they co-wrote with Geneva Robertson Dworet and Jac Schaeffer.

Captain Marvel is set to fly into North American theaters on March 8.
