Chris Hardwick is getting into the movie business.

The co-creator of Nerdist has launched a new production banner named Spitball and has signed a three-picture, first-look deal with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions to produce movies under the Blumhouse label.

Hardwick will be creatively involved in the three films and plans on directing one of them.

Blum said the partnership began with an interview: “I was so inspired talking genre films with Chris on Nerdist that, by the end of the interview, I asked if he would consider doing a film with us. We met one more time later in the week and decided to make two more.  Chris is a passionate genre fan and I feel lucky to be in business with him."

“I’m a die-hard horror fan and have always wanted to be in the horror business,” said Hardwick. “Jason is an amazing entrepreneur, a super-nice guy, and a brilliant producer who is responsible for putting out several of my favorite films, so I am beyond excited for this partnership!"

The deal is a big move into scripted work for Hardwick, who rose to prominence via his geek-infused stand-up comedy and his popular AMC talk show, Talking Dead. The latter expanded into a mini-franchise for Hardwick and the cabler, with whom he has a multiyear deal.

Blum is having a banner year with horror hits Split and Get Out and is set to open Happy Death Day on Friday.
