Nacho Vigalondo, the Spanish filmmaker behind Anne Hathaway starrer 'Colossal,' is teaming with 'The Walking Dead' creator.

Nacho Vigalondo, the filmmaker behind the Anne Hathaway monster movie Colossal, is teaming with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman to adapt the Image comic book The Comeback.

Sony Pictures has the rights to the time-travel thriller package that will see Vigalondo write and direct the project that Kirkman will produce via his Skybound Entertainment banner.

Vigalondo's creative partner, Nahikari Ipina, will also produce, as will Kirkman's Skybound cohorts David Alpert and Sean and Bryan Furst.

The comic, written by Ed Brisson, tells of two men, Seth and Mark, who are agents of Reconnect, a company that, for a hefty fee, will rescue a loved one just before death by going back in time. It's also an illegal venture that has come under the scrutiny of the FBI. When one mission goes south and Seth meets a future version of himself, the men find themselves on the run from both the FBI and their employers, who want to protect their dark secrets.

The comic has been compared to Looper, the Rian Johnson time-travel movie that starred Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Lauren Abrahams is overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.

Vigalondo is a Spanish filmmaker who has been working in the genre sphere for several years (he actually tackled time travel with Timecrimes) and leaped to the international stage with Colossal, the kaiju homage released by Neon.

Comeback now puts the filmmaker into the studio world and on a potential trajectory similar to unique international genre writer-directors such as Taika Waititi and Edgar Wright.

Skybound recently set up at Universal Pictures an adaptation of its comic Kill the Minotaur.

Vigalondo is repped by CAA and Sloane Offer. Brisson is repped by Circle of Confusion and Katz Golden.
