Comic Con 2011: Eisner Spirit Award Finalists Announced

Winners will be revealed Friday night in San Diego.

Comic-Con International: San Diego announced the finalists for this year’s Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award on Wednesday.

A Comic Shop, Alternate Reality, Bridge City, Challengers, Comics and Vegetables, The Comic Bug, The Dragon and Green Brain Comics are among those considered for the prize, presented "to the best of the best in comics retailing."

Nominations are collected from peers, retailers and fans from all over the country. Criteria used to determine nominees include knowledge of the comics field, use of ethical business practice standards, activity and promotion of comics to the community, quality of store image and support for innovative material.

David Glanzer, Comic-Con’s director of marketing and PR, said that he thinks the judges will have a hard time choosing the award recipient as the organization is delighted with all of 2011’s nominations.

The winner of 2011 Spirit Award will be included on the judge’s panel next year.

The Spirit Award is presented each year as part of the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, held during the annual convention. This year the 23rd annual ceremony takes place on Friday, July 22 in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.
