Dave Bautista is in negotiations to join the growing cast of Fantasy Island, the big-screen reimagining of the 1977-84 television show from Sony and Blumhouse, the fright-filled production banner run by Jason Blum.

Jeff Wadlow, who worked with Blumhouse on the recent horror release Truth or Dare, is attached to direct from a script he is writing with Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs.

The feature project is described as being a tonal mix of Westworld meets The Cabin in the Woods, centering on a group of contest winners who arrive at an island hotel to live out their dreams, only to find themselves trapped in nightmare scenarios.

Michael Pena is set to star as Mister Roarke, the host with the most (secrets, that is). Crazy Rich Asians and Silicon Valley actor Jimmy O. Yang has also booked a stay on the island.

If a deal is made, Bautista will play a former guest who is still on the island against his will and who wants to expose Roarke and the island’s magical secrets.

Blumhouse and Sony will co-finance and co-produce.

Bautista shot to worldwide renown thanks to playing green-skinned hero Drax in Marvel’s two Guardians of the Galaxy films. He was due to shoot Guardians 3 in the first quarter of 2019, but that project is on indefinite hold after losing its director, James Gunn, in the summer.

The actor will next be seen in the upcoming Avengers movie as well as in Stuber, an action comedy from Fox set to open in May.

Bautista is repped by CAA, Meisner Entertainment Group and Mitchell Silberberg.
