The six-issue mini will showcase Deadshot and Katana.

DC Entertainment is doubling down on its Suicide Squad property ahead of the Aug. 2016 release of David Ayer's big screen version. They announced Suicide Squad Most Wanted, a double-sized series showcasing two members of the all-villain super-team.

The six-issue mini-series will run alongside the current New Suicide Squad monthly comic book and feature two full-length stories per issue focusing on Deadshot — the character played by Will Smith in the movie — and Katana. Creators on the series will be Brian Buccellato and Viktor Bogdanovic on the Deadshot story (which sees the assassin get a new contract on Lex Luthor — something that's unlikely to go well, all things considered) and Mike W. Barr and Diogenes Neves on the Katana strip.

Barr and Neves's story was previously announced as one of eight standalone mini-series before being folded into this double-length anthology. It's an interesting move, in that the character has never been a member of the Suicide Squad in DC's current comic book mythology, although she does appear as a member in the upcoming movie. Katana previously had her own solo series in 2013, when the character was also starring in the short-lived Justice League of America title.

Deadshot and Katana aren't the only Suicide Squad characters to receive a promotional push from DC in the run-up to the movie: Harley Quinn, who already has a successful solo comic book series of her own, will receive a second ongoing title, Harley's Little Black Book, launching in December.

Suicide Squad Most Wanted: Deadshot/Katana will debut in comic stores and digitally Jan. 2016.
