Everyone knows what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object, but what happens when an unstoppable killing machine meets an irrepressible psychopath? Marvel Entertainment will share the answer next spring, with the newly announced Deadpool vs. the Punisher comic book series.

The five-issue series reunites creators Fred Van Lente and Pere Perez, who previously worked together on Valiant's Archer & Armstrong for what Van Lente describes as "your classic ultraviolet super-crime tragicomedy" that sees an old friend of Deadpool's targeted by Frank Castle, forcing Ryan Reynolds' comic book alter ego to try and save the day — or, at least, his friend from certain death.

Although this is the first time the two have co-headlined a comic book, it's far from the first time they've shared a series. They were both members of the Thunderbolts team in the series of the same name that ran from 2012 through 2014, but that didn't end well, as evidenced by the fact that the final storyline was titled "The Punisher vs. the Thunderbolts."

The project is both a sign of the increasing profile of the Punisher ahead of the launch of his Netflix series at some point in 2017 as well as a reminder of the popularity of Deadpool as a comic book property in addition to his 20th Century Fox movie last year. In the comics, he also anchors the regular Deadpool and Deadpool and the Mercs for Money titles.

Deadpool vs. the Punisher will launch with two issues in April.
