Get a Better Look at Ryuk in the New 'Death Note' Trailer

"Shall we begin?" asks Willem Dafoe's supernatural character.

In the latest trailer for Death Note, Willem Dafoe's Ryuk is on display.

"Shall we begin?" asks the death god to Light Turner, played by Nat Wolff, after he is given a journal that allows him to kill anyone he wants by writing their name inside.

Also seen in the trailer is Lakeith Stanfield's L, the detective bent on stopping Light, and Margaret Qualley's Mia, a friend of Light's who encourages him to use his newfound power.

Adam Wingard, who was recently tapped to helm Godzilla vs. Kong, directed the manga adaption, which drew whitewashing criticism when the story was moved from Japan to the U.S. and was cast with a majority of white actors with Americanized character names.

Death Note hits the streaming service on Aug. 25.
