Sequel to Denzel Washington's 'The Equalizer' in the Works at Sony

Sony will be making a sequel to the Denzel Washington-starring action thriller The Equalizer.
Washington, who is expected to return for the sequel, starred in the 2014 film as a retired black ops government operative who believes he has escaped his past until he meets a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters and can't help but save her. Chloe Grace Moretz starred in the original, which was helmed by Antoine Fuqua.

After opening in theaters on Sept. 26, 2014, The Equalizer, based on the TV show of the same name, performed strongly, earning $192.3 million worldwide.
Also on Wednesday, Sony announced plans for an animated Spider-Man film from the minds of LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller for 2018 and dated its new Marvel Spider-Man live-action film for 2017.
