D.J. Caruso in Talks to Direct 'G.I. Joe 3'
D.J. Caruso, who directed the Shia LaBeouf hits Disturbia and Eagle Eye, is in talks to direct the third installment in Hasbro's and Paramount's G.I. Joe franchise.
Jon M. Chu, who helmed the last Joe movie, 2013's G.I. Joe: Retaliation, was at one time attached to the third film, but left to direct the Jem and the Holograms movie. Martin Campbell's name surfaced in the fall, but his early meetings never progressed to a deal.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing with Hasbro's Brian Goldner.
It's unclear which actors from the previous movie would return, but Dwayne Johnson is attached to return as Roadblock. Before a deal can be made, Caruso and Johnson need to have a tete-a-tete.
The G.I. Joe films has been a solid franchise performer for Paramount. G.I. Joe: Retaliation grossed $375.7 million worldwide. 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which was directed by Stephen Sommers, made $302.5 million.
Caruso, who directed the YA sci-fi thriller I Am Number Four, recently wrapped The Disappointments Room, Relativity's supernatural thriller starring Kate Beckinsale and Lucas Till. That movie is due for release Sept. 25. He's repped by CAA, Media Talent Group and Bloom Hergott.
