The indie is set in a zombie-infected world where "cured" members of society are shunned.

Ellen Page is set to ride The Third Wave.

The actress will star in the thriller that is set in a time after a virus that transformed humans into zombie-like monsters has been cured. But many of the once-infected humans are now shunned by society and even their families, creating social unrest that leads to militant government interference.

"The Third Wave brings an entire new perspective to the zombie genre, which I love," Page said Tuesday in a statement. "David Freyne truly shifts his lens on society's role in the apocalyptic world. I'm so grateful for this opportunity to share his thoughtful approach to horror with audiences."

Sam Keeley (In the Heart of the Sea) also is set to star.

David Freyne will be making his feature directorial debut with the film, which he also wrote after making a proof-of-concept prequel short film titled The First Wave

Page also will produce the feature, along with Rachael O’Kane and Rory Dungan. Mark Huffam, Aidan Elliott, Mathieu Robinet and David Grumbach will co-produce.

Filming is set to begin in Ireland in late 2016.

The Third Wave is backed by the Irish Film Board, Northern Ireland Screen and Bac Films, which is handling international sales, while CAA and WME will handle North America.
