Elvis Graphic Novel Announcement
Michael Shelfer/Z2 Comics
Z2 Comics will release the title, created with the Presley estate, in August.

The King of Rock and Roll is coming to comics in the first official graphic novel featuring Elvis Presley, to be released by Z2 Comics next summer.

Created in partnership with Authentic Brands Group (ABG), a global brand development, marketing, and entertainment company and owner of the Elvis Presley Estate, Elvis: The Graphic Novel will tell the life story of Presley from the start of his career in Memphis through the Sun Studio period and beyond; the creative team for the book will be Chris Miskiewicz, who worked on Z2’s Grateful Dead: Origins graphic novel, and artist Michael Shelfer.

Elvis: The Graphic Novel continues Z2’s acclaimed line of music biographies and collaborative releases; previous artists featured have run the gamut from Beethoven to Gorillaz, with artists such as the Black Keys, Grateful Dead and Charlie Parker also in the mix.

In a statement, Z2 publisher Josh Frankel said about the project, “Elvis is one of the most universally celebrated names in entertainment. His name transcends music itself as one of the larger than life figures in the history of entertainment. Our hope is to make this graphic novel an origin story for Elvis fans akin to what Alan Moore’s ‘Whatever Happened To the Man of Tomorrow’ is for the Son of Krypton.”

The title will be released in multiple formats: a standard edition available in both paperback and hardcover, as well as a limited “Blue Suede” edition, featuring an exclusive slipcase, a vinyl picture disc, and Elvis-inspired art prints by Chris Hunt and Erik Rodriguez. A super deluxe edition, limited to 300, will feature an additional art print available only with this release. (Rodriguez’s artwork can be seen below.)

Elvis: The Graphic Novel will be released in Aug. 11, 2021.
