Final 'Aquaman' Trailer Reveals the Hero's Journey

James Wan's film hits theaters Dec. 21.

The final trailer for James Wan's Aquaman lays out the mission for Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry.

The trailer shows off Arthur's early life and tells the legend that someday a king will return to rebuild the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. To fulfill legend, Arthur must find a trident, which unfortunately for Atlantis and the surface world, his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) also wants. Arthur must team up with Mera (Amber Heard) to find it first.

Aquaman also stars Willem Dafoe, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

"I want it to feel more like a quest, fantasy movie," Wan told The Hollywood Reporter in July at San Diego Comic-Con, where the first trailer debuted. "I wanted people to see just the visuals of the different worlds and what they are getting themselves into, like you are seeing it for the first time."

So far, playing Aquaman has helped Momoa earn points with his kids, particularly his son, who used to call Batman his favorite hero.

"They were supposed to go to bed at nine. They ended up going to bed at 11, and they were just beating me up," Momoa told THR in July of his kids' reaction to the first trailer. "I have this picture of my son, who taped sticks together and made his own trident."

Warner Bros. is opening Aquaman on Dec. 21. It then has Shazam! out in April 2019, Joker in October 2019 and Wonder Woman 1984 in June 2020.
