Final 'Star Trek' Omaze Video Remembers Leonard Nimoy, The First Spock

Zachary Quinto pays homage to the actor who brought the Vulcans to life.

For the final week of Omaze's Star Trek Beyond charity campaign, Zachary Quinto pays tribute to Leonard Nimoy, the actor who originated the role of Spock in the science fiction franchise.

"Leonard was an actor, a champion of the arts, and a true inspiration to so many," Quinto says over images of Nimoy behind the scenes on previous Star Trek movies, both being made up to look like the aged Vulcan as he appeared in 2009's Star Trek and 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness, and also meeting with Quinto and director J.J. Abrams. "It was an honor and a privilege to know him and to call him a friend."

The video is the latest (and last) promoting the Star Trek: To Boldly Go fundraising campaign, which offers fans a chance to visit the set of Star Trek Beyond, currently in production, with a grand prize winner also getting a cameo in the finished movie itself. More information about the campaign, which benefits nine different non-profit organizations can be found on the Omaze website.

Star Trek Beyond, starring Quinto, Chris Pine, Idris Elba and Simon Pegg, is scheduled for release July 8, 2016.
