'The First Purge' Debuts Trump Campaign-Style Teaser
The Trump 2016 presidential campaign may be over, but the Purge series is bringing back memories with its new teaser trailer.
"What makes America great? The answer's simple, really," a narrator says as the trailer for the latest Purge film, The First Purge, begins. "Americans make America great. You are the lifeblood of the nation, and your rights as Americans must be safeguarded."

As stock-photo-looking images of a baseball team, a stadium standing for the national anthem, a tractor and the Statue of Liberty fill the screen, the narrator continues, "There's only one solution to keep our country great. A new tradition. Participate today and nothing will make you prouder than when your boy looks up at you and says, 'Dad, I want to purge, too.'"
Finally, the teaser shows a red baseball cap in the style of Trump's "Make America Great Again" merch emblazoned with the title of the fourth film.
The Purge series takes place in a near future in which America allows a 12-hour period in which all criminal acts, including homicide, are legal. The first film, released in 2013, grosses $64.4 million on a $3 million budget. Since then, sequels The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year were released in 2014 and 2016, respectively. The First Purge will be a prequel story setting up how the Purge came to be.
The First Purge will bring back original writer-director James DeMonaco as a writer, and will be directed by The Burning Sands helmer Gerard McMurray. Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes are producing, with Universal Pictures distributing.
