George Lucas on the New 'Star Wars' Trailer: "I Haven't Seen It Yet"

Considering the excited response online to the first footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, you could be forgiven for thinking that everyone has not only seen the trailer, but has an opinion on it. It turns out, that isn’t true for one man — and it’s the man many assumed would have been the first to see any new Star Wars.
When asked by Page Six about his reaction to the trailer, Star Wars creator George Lucas surprisingly replied, “I don’t know anything about it. I haven’t seen it yet.”

His reason for not watching the clip, apparently, is one of viewing logistics. “It’s not in the movie theater,” he said of the teaser, which was only released to 30 theaters across North America. “I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there. I plan to see it when it’s released.”
Of course, Lucas’ reaction may be part of a larger disinterest in the prospect of future Star Wars movies released without his direct involvement. In response to a question about whether or not he was curious to see what director J.J. Abrams has done with the franchise Lucas created in the late 1970s, he reportedly replied, “Not really.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released Dec. 18, 2015. Perhaps by that point, Lucas might have come around to the idea a little more.
