Gravitas Ventures has picked up the horror thriller Bad Impulse, directed by Hollywood acting coach and helmer Michelle Danner for a Christmas season launch.

Gravitas plans a Dec. 18 theatrical and on demand release for the indie that stars Grant Bowler, Sonya Walger, Paul Sorvino, Stephanie Cayo and Dan Lauria.  Bad Impulse is written by Jason Chase Tyrell and portrays a husband and father after a traumatic event buying a home security system, only to find it slowly destroys what he most wants to protect.

"Michelle builds upon the proven formula of a home invasion thriller, issuing a timely warning about sacrificing privacy in the name of safety. We look forward to North American audiences taking the ride and seeing how bad a lockdown with their families could get," Tony Piantedosi, vp of acquisitions at Gravitas Ventures, said in a statement.

The thriller is being shopped worldwide by Archstone Entertainment.

"Bad Impulse is a psychological horror thriller that tells the story of a family like any other family until a new high-tech security system causes them to be unable to suppress their deepest, darkest inhibitions. These freeing yet troubling experiences force each family member to look into their own black mirror that causes them to live out their innermost fears and desires and ultimately sends their lives spiraling out of control," director Danner added in her own statement.

Piantedosi negotiated the deal with Jack Sheehan, president of worldwide sales and development at Archstone Entertainment.
