Warner Bros. has set a release date for the first Guillermo del Toro-directed movie since 2008's Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Del Toro is helming Pacific Rim, a monsters vs mechas action movie being made by Legendary Pictures. The studio has set a July 12, 2013 release.

Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day and Idris Elba are in various stages of dealmaking to star in the production, based on a script by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans). The film will shoot in Toronto later this summer.

Legendary is known for co-financing many projects on Warners’ slate, but Pac Rim, which is how the project is known at the studio, will be the first film in which the company is spearheading development and production.
