Valiant Reveals Details of Its Supersized 2018 Event Comic Series
Ahead of New York Comic Con, Valiant Entertainment has revealed more details about its big 2018 release, Harbinger Wars 2 — including just how big it actually is.
Months after the publisher revealed that the four-issue series would have two writers (Matt Kindt and Arrival screenwriter Eric Heisserer) and two artists (Tomas Giorello and Raul Allen), the publisher has revealed why…. Namely, that each 48-page issue of the series will feature two full-length stories, telling parallel threads in the increasing conflict between the superpowered psiots and the U.S. government.
Kindt and Giorello, the creative team behind the first arc of the current critically acclaimed X-O Manowar series, will bring that character back to Earth to confront the Harbinger Renegades, while the Secret Weapons team of Heisserer and Allen reunite to take the cast of that series to California, where the conflict will cause a nationwide blackout, leading to chaos across the United States.
"The team at Valiant has set out to make Harbinger Wars 2 the biggest and most impactful comic book event in a generation," Valiant CEO & Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani said in a statement from the publisher. "For one single admission price, we’re going to be giving readers twice the page count, twice the creative firepower, and twice the scale of a standard comics crossover — all while hopefully redefining expectations of what these kinds of stories can accomplish."
The original comic book Harbinger Wars storyline, which ran in 2013, is already planned as a future crossover event movie from Sony, written by Heisserer.
Valiant promises more information on the series will be revealed during its Friday panel at New York Comic Con. The first issue of Harbinger Wars 2 will be released May 2, 2018.
