'Hardcore Henry' Gets Video Game Crossover With 'Payday 2'

The downloadable content will include a new character and two new heists.

Hardcore Henry is the indie action thriller filmed from a first-person POV, giving it the look and feel of a video game come to life. Now the movie is getting the video game treatment.

Ahead of the film's release, STX Entertainment, which is releasing the movie, has partnered with game developer Starbreeze for a special promotion that will pay homage to the film's gamer roots.

Starbreeze is taking a character from Hardcore Henry and incorporating it into its popular game Payday 2. Jimmy, a character with many different avatars in the movie (played by Sharlto Copley), will be joining the game's roster of heisters.

The integration will be made available on March 31 and will also feature two new heists inspired by the film, Hardcore: The Boiling Point Heist and Hardcore: The Murky Station Heist. It will be free for all Payday 2 players.

The Ilya Naishuller-directed film premiered in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival and is told from the perspective of a man who wakes up in a Moscow laboratory to learn that he's been brought back from the dead as a half-human, half-robotic hybrid. With no memory of his former life, he embarks on a bloody rampage across the city in order to rescue the woman who claims to be his wife from a group of armed thugs.

Hardcore Henry and Payday 2 are the perfect marriage of entertainment properties, and we hope that gamers join us on this amazing thrill ride,”said Oren Aviv, president and chief content officer of STX Entertainment.

Hardcore Henry hits theaters on April 8.
