'Art and Arcana'

Will you look at the time? It’s halfway through December, Christmas is steadily approaching and many people probably haven’t finished shopping for loved ones.

Have no fear, because the handy-dandy Heat Vision gift guide is here. We live in geek times, where everything you love and have ever loved has been retooled and refashioned and endlessly commoditized.

Here’s the stuff we think people will like:

Funko Pop filmmaker figures

You can now find a Funko bobblehead figurine for almost everyone and everything, including some of your favorite directors. Perfect for the cineastes on your list. Alfred Hitchcock got his very own this fall. Guillermo del Toro got one earlier this year. If you’re lucky, you may be able to land James Wan, James Gunn and Taika Waititi, which were Comic-Con exclusives. In the $10 range

Dungeons & Dragons Art and Arcana: A Visual History

Not just a visual feast but a great look at the history and evolution of the role-playing game that was not only a 1980s geek touchstone, but is still making its presence felt today. From aficionados Michael Witwer, Kyle Newman, Jon Peterson and actor Sam Witwer. $50 hardcover

Captain Marvel duffle bag and cross purse

For those excited about the upcoming Marvel movie, Loungefly tastefully has you covered. $40-$70

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse — The Art of the Movie

If you get or gift one Art of the Movie coffee table tome, make it one of the few movies that actually deserves the Art of the Movie treatment. $39.95

Nerf Blasters

Yes, we live in an era of $50 Nerf guns. Sorry, I mean "Blasters." And man, are they tricked out. The Accustrike Mega Thunderhawk (with a flip-down bipod), the N-Strike Elite Infinus (30-dart removable drum!), and Laser Ops Pro Alphapoint 2-Pack (which can be synced to an app) will allow for some epic battles in between caroling and holiday meals. $44.99-$69.99

Star Wars Icon: Han Solo

Some people may have forgotten Solo: A Star Wars Story, but we haven’t. One of the cinema's most popular and enduring characters gets a handsome and lavish book dedicated to all things Han Solo that is both illuminating and a feast for the eyes. Available exclusively from Sideshow Collectibles at the moment (the book will hit other retailers in April to coincide with Star Wars Celebration). $50.00

Batman: The Complete Animated Series

Considered one of the best animated series of all time and winner of four Emmys, the show gets the fancy treatment from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and comes in two forms: the deluxe limited edition, which includes three Funko figurines; and the standard box set. Beware though: the deluxe set is almost sold out, so get 'em while you can. $89.99-$112.99

Star Wars: Ultimate Co-Pilot Chewie

Some people may have forgotten Solo: A Star Wars Story, but we haven’t. (It’s a line worth repeating.) Hasbro this fall released a mini Chewie that interacts with you, using over 100 sound and motion combinations. Kids will love it, adults will try to steal it for themselves. It's one of the most adorable things you'll ever see. $129.99

Lego Creator Expert James Bond Aston Martin DB5

A winter with no Legos is like winter with no hot chocolate. Here’s a doozy of a set for lovers of 007 and serious Lego action. The quintessential James Bond vehicle, the 1964 DB5, in a 1,290 piece set that is striking in its attention to detail. Among other highlights, it features the rotating license plates, ejector seat, tire scythes and front-fender machine guns on the outside, a concealable tracking computer and a door compartment containing a telephone on the inside. Recommended for the 16-plus crowd. $149.99

Jurassic Park Raptor Hatchling

This is a bit of a cheat considering you can’t get this yet … but maybe you can make it an I.O.U. Chronicle Collectibles is taking pre-orders on a life-size velociraptor egg with a hatchling coming out of the cracks. The piece is expected to ship in the second quarter of 2019. $249.99
