IDW Entertainment, the media arm of independent comic publisher IDW Publishing, is losing its leader.

David Ozer, president of the company since its 2013 launch, has stepped away to become an independent producer. Ozer’s departure was announced Friday by IDW, with Kerry McCluggage, CEO of IDW Media Holdings (parent company of IDW Publishing, IDW Entertainment, IDW Games and Top Shelf Productions), releasing a statement, which read, "David has been with IDW Entertainment from the beginning and, along with his team, helped build IDW Entertainment into a thriving independent production company and we wish him well in his future endeavors. We look forward to building on the solid foundation of our entertainment division by developing and delivering even more quality productions to the television and film markets."

Ozer was responsible for negotiations with Syfy for the fan-favorite Wynonna Earp TV series, as well as Netflix’s Locke and Key and V-Wars shows, all of which are based on IDW Publishing properties.

The IDW announcement also included a statement from Ozer himself, which read, “This was a difficult decision to make, as I am extremely proud of what we have achieved with IDW Entertainment, but also incredibly excited by the opportunities in the independent producing market today.”

Ozer's departure continues a period of significant upheaval at IDW Media Holdings. In June, Ted Adams stepped down as CEO of the company for a sabbatical, although he is expected to return in a creative role. And earlier this year, Chris Ryall exited as editor-in-chief of IDW Publishing after 14 years, with former editor John Barber returning to the company in April to replace him.

There was no mention of a potential replacement for Ozer in IDW's release.
