Studio 8 has picked up Naked Is the Best Disguise, a sci-fi thriller that will serve as the directorial debut of Graham Moore, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Imitation Game.

Scoop Wasserstein of Scoop Productions developed the script with Moore, who wrote it, and will produce.

Disguise, which takes place over the course of one night, is set in a near future in which new technology allows one person’s memories to be extracted and inserted into someone else. It centers on an illegal memory dealer who is accused of murdering a man who she does not believe she even knows.

The pre-emptive acquisition of the spec continues Studio 8’s recent ramp-up of their slate and follows last week’s development of writer Max Borenstein and filmmaker Robert Rodriguez's sci-fi thriller Hypnotic.

The company has fast-tracked Disguise with an eye toward production this year. Casting for the female lead will begin immediately.

Guy Danella and Greg Self will oversee for Studio 8.

Studio 8 has its first release, White Boy Rick, starring Matthew McConaughey, set to open Aug. 17. That is followed by prehistoric adventure movie Alpha, directed by Albert Hughes, which will open Sept. 14.

Moore, who began as a novelist, saw his screenplay for Imitation Game win not only the Oscar for best adapted screenplay but also a WGA Award, plus BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations. The 2014 movie starred Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley and received eight Oscar nominations, including for best picture.

Moore is repped by CAA. Wasserstein is represented by Iddo Arad at Frankfurt Kurnit.
