Jeff Goldblum Shares Ominous 'Independence Day: Resurgence' Teaser

"We're fighting for our right to live, to exist."

Jeff Goldblum celebrated the Fourth of July by sharing a teaser for Independence Day: Resurgence.

"We thought we wiped them out. The Resurgence is here," he wrote on Facebook while sharing a mysterious 12-second video on Saturday.

The teaser itself, which features an effect inferring interrupted communication, reads: "We're fighting for our right to live, to exist."

The same effect was included in ominous posts spotlighting memorable lines from the original film that were shared on the new film's Twitter account, as well as on the account of director Roland Emmerich.

A first preview of the anticipated sequel hit the big screen over the holiday weekend, before screenings of the Arnold Schwarzenegger-fronted Terminator Genisys.

Goldblum's new teaser was posted just days after the actor officially joined Facebook and shared a photo from the set featuring co-star Liam Hemsworth.

So there I was thinking about how I would save mankind when this guy photobombs me. Oh, why hello Facebook, nice to finally meet you. #IDR

The film's new castmembers include Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward, who co-star alongside returning actors Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Brent Spiner and Judd Hirsch.

Director Emmerich previously revealed that the sequel to the 1996 alien-invasion hit will take place 20 years after the attack that Will Smith and Goldblum's characters fought off in the first film. In the intervening time, the human race has joined forces to organize a global defense system using alien technology to pre-empt future invasions.

Fox will release the alien-action thriller June 24, 2016, nearly 20 years after the original film hit theaters on July 3, 1996.
