James Gunn: There's More Pressure to Follow Up 'Guardians' Soundtrack Than the Movie

The prospect of following up Guardians of the Galaxy didn't faze writer-director James Gunn, with one surprising exception — the prospect of coming up with a second generation of the beloved "Awesome Mix."

"Originally people kept asking me, 'Don't you feel a lot of pressure to do the second movie?' and I didn't in general because we had our hands tied behind our back on the first one by having to introduce all those characters, so it seems like doing the second movie is actually easier in that respect," Gunn told Entertainment Tonight. However, he admitted, "I did feel a little pressure for the soundtrack because so many people loved it, and we went platinum and all that other stuff."

Not to worry, though; he said that "the soundtrack in the second one is better. I feel like it's better, so I'm excited about it." Sadly, no hints about what will be included on that soundtrack, although we can presume that there'll be at least one song that a living tree can get down to somewhere in the mix.

Gunn also told ET that he's preparing to go full hermit to complete the screenplay for the second outing of Chris Pratt's space heroes, saying that he's "not going to see anybody, going to become very very stinky, going to eat a lot of crap food and not have much of a life for a little while" while writing.

"I'm really excited about it, and I feel really good about the story," he added. "It really is something unique, so I feel good about it."

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is slotted for a May 2017 release.
