Jemaine Clement is joining James Cameron's Avatar sequels, playing marine biologist Dr. Ian Garvin.

He will join fellow franchise newcomers Michelle Yeoh, Edie Falco and Kate Winslet, as well as returning players Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington.

"I’ve loved Jemaine’s work for years and I’m really pumped that he’s joining our cast as Ian Garvin, one of my favorite characters," Cameron said Wednesday in a statement.

Disney recently pushed back the release of Fox's Avatar movies. The first of the planned sequel films will hit theaters Dec. 17, 2021; Avatar 3 is due out Dec. 22, 2023; Avatar 4 is slated for Dec. 19, 2025; and Avatar 5 has been shifted to Dec. 17, 2027.

Clement broke out as a one-half of the New Zealand comedy duo Flight of the Conchords. He is the co-creator of FX’s recently released comedy series What We Do in the Shadows, which is based on his and Taika Waititi’s 2014 vampire feature mockumentary of the same name.

Clement is repped by UTA and Morris Yorn.
