Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton in Talks to Join Dwayne Johnson in 'Rampage' (Exclusive)
Joe Manganiello, one of the stars of True Blood and Magic Mike, and Marley Shelton are in negotiations to join Dwayne Johnson in Rampage, New Line’s adventure project based on the 1980s video game.
Brad Peyton is directing the pic, which reunites Johnson, Peyton and producer Beau Flynn, the team behind San Andreas and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
New Line is keeping plot details in the cage. Like the video game, the film will feature three creatures — a monstrously transformed gorilla, crocodile and wolf — who wreak havoc on North American cities and landmarks.
Johnson will play an animal-loving hero who is the world’s only hope, while Naomie Harris, the Oscar-nominated Moonlight actress, is on board as a geneticist with a moral streak.
Manganiello will portray the leader of a private military group; Shelton will play a scientist and astronaut.
Producing the movie along with Flynn are John Rickard, via his Wrigley Pictures banner, and Hiram Garcia, Johnson’s partner who is producing via Seven Bucks Productions. Peyton also is producing through his ASAP Entertainment banner.
Exec producing are Johnson, Dany Garcia, Marcus Viscidi and Jeff Fierson. Wendy Jacobson of FlynnPictureCo is co-producing.
The movie is set for an April 20, 2018, release.
Manganiello, who played the werewolf character Alcide Hevreaux on HBO's True Blood, is slated to play the DC villain Deathstroke in the next Batman movie. He is repped by CAA and Management 360.
Shelton starred on the Lifetime series The Lottery and has appeared in such films as the Anthony Hopkins thriller Solace and Scream 4. She is repped by Paradigm, Untitled and Hansen Jacobson.
