Legendary's 'Tower Chronicles' Shifts to Monthly Comics in 2014
Legendary Comics, the publishing division of Thomas Tull's movie studio, is going old school with the next run of its flagship title, starting next year. Gone will be a focus on the bookstore market and collected editions, and instead, Legendary will be releasing The Tower Chronicles as a series of monthly comic books.
After releasing the initial installments of the series The Tower Chronicles -- a fantasy series by Mage's Matt Wagner and Lobo and Heavy Metal artist Simon Bisley -- in graphic novel-length editions, Legendary will shift format for the series' next outing, The Tower Chronicles: DreadStalker.
The change in format for the series follows a recent shift in distribution for the company, which launched in 2011 with the controversial Holy Terror, a response to the 9/11 attacks by Frank Miller. Since June, Legendary's releases have been solicited by Marvel Comics, offering the publisher more visibility in the comic book specialty direct market. (The first title to appear in Marvel's solicits was Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero.) Whether or not the partnership with Marvel has played a part in the change of release format, however, isn't clear.
The first Legendary comic format release will be The Tower Chronicles: DreadStalker #1 in April 2014.
